If you have never set up your own website before, this process may seem complicated. Choosing a name, domain registration, hosting – all of this can be not so easy to do. If you are not sure then don‘t do anything, just get acquainted with the possibilities and ask specialists.

Before you start building your website or online store, you must select your domain name. In short, a domain it‘s the address of your website on the Internet. When choosing a name you should pay attention to some rules:

If it’s possible, use your business name as your domain name. If not, try using a combination of one or two of your branded keywords to create a unique name that will bring traffic to your website.

Avoid using shortcuts, dashes, hyphens, characters, and numbers (eg "0" as the letter "o"). The domain name should be simple, easy to remember and does not require any explanation.

Before approval a domain name, you can check, for example, "Whois.net" that it does not infringe someone's copyright.

Name is already taken

Sometimes you can try to acquire a domain that already belongs to someone, especially if it is not actively used. If you really want to stay with a particular name, there are several possibilities:

Contact the person who owns your domain or is interested in selling. Also, check the possibility of buying it on the domain exchange or brokers.

If your company already has a well established position and the domain name belongs to someone else, you may be able to contest its trademark ownership. In that case, contact a lawyer.

Check that this name has not been used for spam or other types of abuse, as this can significantly affect the positioning of your site.

Registration and hosting

When you decide on a name and make sure it is available, you need to purchase it using a domain registrar. Then you need to find a hosting company that stores it on their servers. Remember that buying a domain and hosting is always two separate payments. The purchased domain is always your property, so regardless of where you host it, you can transfer it to another provider with the Authinfo code, which you will find in the domain management panel of your logger.
